A Mastic woman faces animal cruelty charges after being arrested on Monday for allegedly throwing her dog from her car and leaving it at a gas station last month. Josephine Rivera faces a fine of up to $1,000 and/or up to a year in prison on the misdemeanor charge. According the the Suffolk County SPCA, Rivera’s small dog frantically ran around Rivera’s car trying to get back in after Rivera dumped the dog in front of a gas station on Montauk Highway in Mastic, back on June 23rd. According to witnesses, several children were in the car whem the dog was tossed out. A $2,000 reward resulted in tips that lead to Rivera’s arrest. Police also say a surveillance camera caught the woman tossing the dog from her car.
