If you’ve got a cat and you’re tired of cleaning litter boxes, then perhaps it’s time to train your cat to use the toilet. No, we haven’t lost our minds, there are a few good kits out there to train your cat to do his or her business right in the toilet. Rumor has it some cats even flush when they’re done (ok, we’re kidding about that one, but one can dream!).
We took a look at one of the most popular cat toilet training kits — CitiKitty Cat Toilet Training Kit — and here’s what we found. Keep in mind that every cat is different; thus, every experience with CitiKitty will be different.

The plastic seat is relatively sturdy, and CitiKitty says that the seat should hold cats up to 25 lbs. Since our tiny cat weighs in at about 9 lbs soaking wet, we had to improvise and place some weights on the seat to see if it would hold up. With two 10 lbs weights, the seat held up firmly, no buckling or bending.
The training insert seat fits on your toilet and you fill it with flushable litter. The litter is temporary to attract your cat to the seat. They use the “seat” in the same way they would use a litter box. After a period of time goes by, you gradually remove the rings from the center of the seat out so that your cat is now going in the toilet. The process of gradually removing the rings allows your cat to adjust to the wider opening, and position him or herself on the toilet seat. Once your cat has been completely trained, you can remove the entire device and your cat should be going on the toilet. (Continued…)
